Nigeria

Nigeria joined the IMF at independence in 1961. As Africa's largest economy by GDP, Nigeria's quota share remains underrepresented. Nigeria received structural adjustment loans from the IMF in the 1980s-90s during periods of economic instability. The country's oil wealth drove rapid quota growth in the 1970s-80s. Nigeria's persistent foreign exchange challenges mean SDR holdings often fall below allocation levels.
