Brazil

Brazil's relationship with the IMF has transformed dramatically. From being a frequent borrower during the debt crises of the 1980s and 1990s, Brazil emerged as a creditor nation and even repaid all IMF loans ahead of schedule in 2005. Brazil's growing quota reflects its position as the world's 9th largest economy. As a BRICS member, Brazil advocates for emerging market representation in IMF governance reform.
